Caviaris the older stuff is a lot crazier and cooler in my opinion, definitely underrated, while slaughter of the soul gets all the praise.

Anything IF did up to Colony and DT did up to and including The Mind's Eye is more kvlt and way better than SOTS. // Gates of Ishtar is fucking amazing [2]

Alavil So this may be because I'm not that much into the whole genre. In cases like that guys who are into the genre are usually right and you usually suck. But lol I still can't face that I always treated SotS like a kvlt album and I enter its lastfm site and a lot of pro melodeath fans hate it ;__; sad face.

I like melodeath and I think SotS is some boss shit. I know nobody here's gonna like hearing this, but metalcore took a lot from this album (the thrashy triplet feel parts)

I agree about the modern melodeath part. But, absolutely any other oldschool melodeath album is better than SotS. I suggest you to listen to more bands - try Dark Tranquillity, or the more obscure ones like A Canorous Quintet, Ceremonial Oath, Eucharist and others. You will be amazed, trust me. "Can't tell if DimebagMustaine is trolling or serious." Can't tell if Venusfly91 is a fool or a fool.

I mean, I love some oldschool melodeath , especially early In Flames - first five CDs are the real shit. And as soon as it comes to their nowadays works and modern melodeath in general - I literally can't listen to this awful stuff. But SotS is so fucking amazing to me, my taste evolves and evolves but I still believe that this album kicks a major ass. Maybe this is because it was first melodeath record I've ever listened to and I remember how it amazed me from the first listening. After this I thought that melodeath will become my favourite genre and I was so disappointed that it's not so good in general...
