Can't believe the Germans bombed him though. To paraphrase Withnail; the Focker will rue the day!

Al's music has been used in Withnail & I, The Shining and Amelie. He may never have cracked Hollywood, but he's ultimately appeared in some pretty cool movies.

LOL, that is too funny. I also just heard about Al Bowlly in the movie "I Really Hate My Job" and I love him!! His music is so great!! I'll have to get some of his stuff for sure.

I never even heard of Al Bowly, until today. I was watching a movie called I Really Hate My Job, with Neve Campbell and Shirley Henderson. There was a scene where one of the characters started playing some music from the late 20s or 30s. The music from that era is really good and the character was staring at a picture on the wall talking about Al Bowlly.

There was one year when Al was even more popular in the States than Bing Crosby. The trouble is that he couldn't crack Hollywood and had to settle for being big in the UK. From a documentary I saw on television, people like Bing learned some of their crooning techniques from Al. Killed in Jermyn Street, London during the blitz (useless fact for those who care!). At the end of the day, this is a nice track.
