2006 has to be the best year for new music in recent memory. From indie to experimental to dancefloor material, it seemed there was something this year for everyone. If you were having trouble finding new material to listen to this year, chances are you just weren’t looking in the right places. Starting this site earlier in the year, I simply started by recommending five albums a month, and most were a few years old. Once spring started, I not only had to expand that selection to ten, but most if not all recommendations were coming from the new releases section of music stores. With my top 50 list, I’ll be describing my experience with many of those releases I recommended, and why you might want to check them out if you haven’t. Be patient with my writing; I’m not a journalist or an English major. Just a music lover that loves to share. Please visit my Amazon store if you are interested in purchasing these albums. …

Reflection on Recent Top 10

1 Meshuggah 22
Well, I'm toying with the idea of getting a bunch of people together and fully dissecting Catch-33 in an effort to try and catch (ha ha ha) all its quirks. Some things are obvious, like the guitar only intro on The Paradoxical Spiral lasts for 32 seconds before the riff kicks in. But, I'd be interested in what a group of music majors could find. Thinking about this stuff just makes me realize, again and again, that I need to start taking classes on theory.
1 Colleen 22
I fell asleep and this came on. You may notice Clogs on the list too. Yeah. Sleep. I get tired, sit down to read, and boom. Out. I still haven't listened to all of Colleen Et Les Boites a Musique, but the concept is so cool.
3 Napalm Death 20
The more I listen to Smear Campaign, the more I love it. And to think, I thought it was a letdown compared to The Code is Red when I first heard it. … -

Best of 2006 so far...
Giu 25 2006, 17:53 di onecaseman
From an electronic standpoint, 2006 has been a glorious year already. The sheer quantity of quality new releases each week has been daunting, and it has been incredibly hard to keep up with everything. Nonetheless, I will attempt to highlight what I think has been the cream of the crop for 2006 so far in terms of new releases. Keep in mind this will be in a very loose order. Also, only music officially released will be highlighted. None of that leaked stuff. Without further ado...
Top 25 Albums of 2006 so far:
1. Bibio, Hand Cranked
2. Boxcutter, Oneiric
3. Ellen Allien & Apparat, Orchestra of Bubbles
4. Tstewart, Living Exponentially
5. Miwon, Pale Glitter
6. Hassle Hound, Limelight Cordial
7. AFX, Chosen Lords
8. I'm Not A Gun, We Think as Instruments
9. The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble
10. Burial, Burial
11. Reminder, Continuum
