    Yes...

I use to listen movie soundtracks without seeing the actual movie, and from time to time the soundtrack is so brilliant that I have to see the movie too.

I like also to watch music videos of songs and artists that I've only heard/listened before. Sometimes it's really weird to see them live, because they don't match the images inside my head.

All the time. In fact I would say 60% of the soundtracks I have listened to are to movies I have never seen.

    Yup, same here.

Very rarely - I cannot even recall any example.

sometimes i first listen to soundtrack and then watch movie, but it happens very rarely.

  • Yes
About a third of the soundtracks I own and listen to are from movies I've never seen.

  • Sometimes,I usually listen to them after watching the film:)

Yeah, I do actually... I don't know if there's any sense in it, though. ;P

  • Yep, sometimes the music inspires the need to see the movie. My most recent example: K-Pax ( Edward Shearmur ). Or the music inspires to watch the movie yet again. Best example here: Elizabeth: The Golden Age ( Craig Armstrong and Ar Rahman ).

What's really weird is the 'new' Mozart versions you get to hear in Kenneth Branagh's "The Magic Flute" (2006 but was just rushed through a small amount of cinemas here in Germany)

yes, there are few movie soundtracks that I like to listen to even though I haven't seen the movie. if I like the soundtrack then eventually I watch the movie too.
for example, I thought that the movie Sunshine would be a total crap. on my brother's computer I found the soundtrack for this movie and started to listen to it. I loved it. afterwards I watch the movie itself and I love, love, loved it too!

  • I have a ton of Ennio Morricone stuff, and I've only seen about 10 movies with his score in it.

I listened to Nick Cave/Warren Ellis' score to The Assassination of Jesse James... before I saw the film. Which made me appreciate the score even more.

I have. James Newton Howard's various albums I listen to. I have seen I Am Legend, King Kong and My Girl. So, thanks to those, I did check out his other works and very much enjoy some of those too.

I have started doing this recently with movie AND game soundtracks.

It's just not meaningful enough to me anymore to see the movie, or play the game, before listening to the soundtrack.

I say if you like the artist in question, don't hesitate to listen to the soundtrack if you have no interest in what the album was composed for.

For example, I love Hitoshi Sakimoto's work. However, I had no interest in playing FFXII, so I just found the soundtrack and tried it out. Needless to say, I would have missed out on a lot of quality music had I waited to play the game.

I have some soundtracks from games I haven't played, or animes I haven't watched, but not many from movies. Chaos Legion, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, Nausicaa, are but a few examples. :)

Same here. I like to listen to soundtracks made by certain composers - it doesn't matter if i have played that game. same goes for movies/series. all i care is music ;)

  • Yep, I've never seen Gladiator but love the music, because Hans Zimmer is a genius =)

  • I guess around 50% here. I usually download whatever I can find, and if its good I buy the cd. Really good - watch the movie. :-)

yeah i do it, kinda as a revisualization of the feature, of what you could imagine the scene that this music is composed to would be like...
not like I'm rating my imagination here, but sometimes i come up with better scenes to compliment the score...sometimes...

I know you are but what am I....
  • Most of the times, 80% perhaps, the soundtracks I listen to come from movies/games/series I have already seen/played, but if I find a soundtrack of an artist I already know I love (or, if the artist have been recommended to me), I usually download and listen to it without having seen the movie/played the game, although not entirely guilt-free. Like with Michael Andrews's soundtrack of "Me and You and Everyone We Know", I end up seeing the movie anyways.
But I do have the soundtrack of "Reqiuem For a Dream", and I haven't seen that movie yet. :o

    What's wrong, Mr. Wind-Up Bird?
  • I'm like that too. I still haven't seen the Transformers movie, though I would like to, JUST because I find the soundtrack as great as it is. With games I often make the mistake where I get the soundtrack, and then listen to it all without having finished the game yet, and then whine about I think I know what's gonna happen (or at least have an idea of it) thanks to the pieces on the soundtrack. Sometimes I do, if I hear good things about the soundtrack.

  • @/BetYouCantEatMe: two words: Final Fantasy. For me, (mostly), Crisis Core. That soundtrack made me splooge all over the dashboard, trying to figure out what was going to happen, without having you totally spoiling me through youtube clips and such, ahahaha.

About half of the soundtracks I own are from films/games I've never seen/played. That's fine with me. I've found in many movies that the score is buried or so abbreviated that I enjoy it better as a standalone project.
