Everyone knew this thread would surface eventually...

I'm just going to get it out of the way now. Favorite Elliott Smith songs. I'm going to say....top 5. I know this is ridiculously hard, but I think 5 is fair( if you have to, 6 would be okay( or 7( but no more than 7( 8 would also be acceptable)))).

In no particular order...

1. Say Yes
2. Between the Bars
3. Twilight
4. The Biggest Lie
5. True Love

Special mention:

Dancing on the Highway
King's Crossing (The structure of this song is incredible)
Waltz #2 (XO)

"I Didn't Understand" was a close contender. It's definitely one of the most beautiful songs.

ahhh, this was hard, right now i'm really liking A Living Will and Brand New Game, infact his full band/upbeat stuff is really appealing to me, but overall its probably those five.

I couldn't put them in order because he has so many awesome songs, but here are 5 that I don't seem to get bored listening to:

st. ides heaven
high times
waltz #1
the enemy is you
a distorted reality is now a necessity to be free

I love so many songs I wish I could just continue. My picks probably aren't his best songs, but there's something about them that makes me listen to them over and over again. you know, that something.

I love the Stevens cover, too. The thing is that every couple months or so I'll fall in love with 3 or four of his songs (right now: I Figured You Out, Angel in the Snow, Dancing on the Highway) and I listen to them all the time. But then in another month that line-up changes. For this thread I picked songs that were concrete favorites. Maybe not my favorites at the time, but definitely in the long run.

Hehe, I like that so many people like Say Yes, when Elliott himself said he wrote it in about 5 minutes and actually doesn't like it :p.

I can't choose five all time favorites, so I'll just put some I've been digging by Elliott.

I couldn't possibly rank my favorite songs. Albums is easier, since there are only 6 of them, but there are 150 songs and each and every one is great. But these are my top 5 most listened to songs, according to Last.fm:
