  • The Ultimate Ska Compilation....

Mine would open with Delroy "Little Del Boy" Wilson doing Love Abiding...what should track 2 be?
I have a ton of ideas but am interested in what the rest of you think.

Yes-it is pouring rain and I have never been so bored, so give it a go

    anything by the Skatalites

  • THen it would have to be "Garden On Love", as that is my favorite

    http://dlaurice.podomatic.com/
Good stuff- give it a listen!
  • OK- so where is everybody?
    Tracks so far
1.Love Abiding- Delroy "Little Del Boy" Wilson
    2.Garden On Love- Skatalites
Maybe If I add some more we can get this going?
    3.I Love You- Tecniques
4.Hoochy Kootchy Kai Po- Four Aces
5.I'm A Blackhead Again- Derrick Morgan...
    Anyone out there?

    http://dlaurice.podomatic.com/
Good stuff- give it a listen!
  • How hard is it to pick only one? I adore Old Rocking Chair sung by Jackie Opel, but he's backed on that track by The Skatalites which u have already, so... how about Rub Up Push Up by Justin Hinds and The Dominoes?

  • Excellent Selecta!
1.Love Abiding- Delroy "Little Del Boy" Wilson
    2.Garden On Love- Skatalites
    3.I Love You- Tecniques
4.Hoochy Kootchy Kai Po- Four Aces
5.I'm A Blackhead Again- Derrick Morgan
6.Rub Up, Push Up- Justin Hinds and the Dominos
Funny, as a young Skinhead (god- some 22 years ago), that was probably my all time favorite tune at the time. I often forget about how good it is- thanks for the reminder :)

Never connected the Opel to the Skatalites- very close indeed, both top shelf

    http://dlaurice.podomatic.com/
Good stuff- give it a listen!
  • i agree about skatalites. i once saw them live and had been playing pool with one of them, i am confused who he was but he joined me and my friend at a pool game and then he got on stage and played trumpet. they were so good too.

    "Friends, a dream
runs up to me smiling. I call on you
to see in the dark, to finish
    the song inside you."

    --John Brandi
  • What year was it Wildwood (a great song by the way- favorite version is Emmylou)? That would help to narrow it down a bit- cool story

    http://dlaurice.podomatic.com/
Good stuff- give it a listen!

7 songs in 2 months? Not really good, so I am going to add a few essentials

8.Ten Penny Nail- The Upsetters- this is an old Mento done by a SKA band called the Upsetters- not of Lee Perry/Skinhead Reggae fame
9.Really Now- The Dreamlets- absolutely sublime

Those are BOTH horrifyingly overplayed (and in the case of Symarip- terrible) Skinhead Reggae tunes...we are talking about Original SKA here, and thus you are not even in the ball park.
Perhaps a tutorial on the difference is in order-apparently this is harder to grasp than I thought.
That said- Toots did a number of really good SKA sides and then went off to the pokey (which 54 is about)
GO get "Never Grow Old" for a sampling
Then buy "Dancehall '69" so you can get your hands on some better SH tunes
BOy do I sound like an a-hole there...Makin' friends again :)

I'm very pleased with this one:
Carib Roots Gaz #18 - Super Ska (Sweet Ska Vocal) and Super Ska (Jamdown Ska Soul).
Great selection of tunes... not that overplayed.

    I'm Holding On

    EDIT://
I will love to have also Renegade (walk on by) by the Zodiacs
    Cool tune...

  • Of course you bring tunes I don't have...nice work again :)
How did you get so many great records at your age? I was way too borracho to even care (sigh).
OK- top shelf suggestions- of course

And of course, I do not have "How Many Times"
but I think my selection at #11 will work (until you send me those tunes huh???)

... and you are absolutely right- it is criminal that Lord Creator is not on here yet

haha by the way, I dont drink too much..... I'm totally a freak with music... but is not that harmfull I hope so :o

  • This is turning into some list. Renegade by The Zodiacs is an all-timer for me, just amazing. I'm now thinking you might end up without the voice of Jackie Opel though, so I was thinking You're Too Bad, unless you know a better one of course ;) Any plans on posting this set Dave?
