    Bluegrass covers of Rock tunes

    Hi,

I'm not a big fan of Bluegrass or Country music by any means, Frank Zappa is at the top of my Library, but I ran across some Bluegrass cover albums today that surprised me:

    Pickin' On Pink Floyd
    Pickin' On Jimi Hendrix
    Pickin' On Led Zeppelin
    Pickin' On The Beatles

There's also Bluegrass cover albums of AC/DC, Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne songs by Iron Horse too.

Back in Bluegrass- The Bluegrass Tribute AC-DC
Fade To Bluegrass: The Bluegrass Tribute To Metallica
Black and Bluegrass-A Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne

You should hear the Bluegrass renditions of Pink Floyd's Astronomy Domine and Goodbye Blue Sky by David West. It's beautiful music. Covers of Jimi Hendrix's The Wind Cries Mary, Led Zeppelin's Gallows Pole and The Beatles Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) are all good too.

This isn't the twangy Country music you probably think of when somebody mentions Bluegrass, though stuff by Iron Horse is more traditional Bluegrass. This is all good studio quality music of songs you probably already love.

If you've never heard Bluegrass this the best chance you'll ever have. I highly recommend you let Pickin' On Pink Floyd be your first exposure.

If you're a fan of the original artists you owe it to yourself to hear these versions. I don't think you'll be disappointed, though you may enjoy some of it more than others.

    Check 'em out...

    I hope you like them.

I found a Pickin' On The Rolling Stones album today and am getting ready to listen to it.

Yesterday was the first time I'd heard any of these Bluegrass cover albums and I've quickly become a fan. I didn't know these Bluegrass covers were such a big deal. There are cover albums of Creed and several other bands if you just look.

I live in Missouri so I'm no stranger to Bluegrass but have never been a fan. I usually wouldn't listen to it unless you made me, but this has given me a whole new appreciation for the genre.

I'm listening to the Bluegrass Metallica covers now and throughly enjoying them.

I also found a cover album of Hendrix tunes done by The Tallywood Quartet that was pretty good too:

A String Tribute To Jimi Hendrix by The Tallywood Quartet.

There's also a Metallica cover album done by The String Quartet in a classical style.

So much new music to listen to, so little time. ;)

I found a few more Bluegrass cover albums you might be interested in:

    Pickin' on Nickleback
    Pickin' on Def Leppard
    Pickin' On Aerosmith
    Pickin' On The Who
    Pickin' On CCR
    Pickin' On Gretchen Wilson
    Pickin On Modest Mouse
Strummin' With The Devil: The Southern Side of Van Halen - A Tribute

I'm listening to the Van Halen covers now. David Lee Roth sings on a couple songs, Jump and Jamie's Cryin', so he's down with it. Metallica played some of their covers at one of their concerts and commented that "It's cool" when asked about it by a reporter.

Like most music, some of it's better than others. There are songs I've heard that I'll probably never listen to again, then there are some that will becomes favorites I listen to an a regular basis. The Bluegrass songs done by David West are especially good. He composed the Dueling Banjos song from the movie Deliverance.

A String Tribute To Jimi Hendrix by The Tallywood Quartet is sweet and I've listened to it a couple times already. It's done in a Classical style and the musicians are tight.

I'm not ready to give up listening to KoЯn or anything, but this is a nice change of pace and thought you all might enjoy something different.

If you're still not sure about this Bluegrass stuff I've been ranting about, here's a video of the Goodbye Blue Sky cover by David West. If you don't like this then it probably isn't for you...

    Bluegrass covers...

a Canadian band named Luther Wright and the Wrongs covered Pink Floyd's The Wall...complete...a great, though somewhat odd cd.

Also there is a ACDC cover band called Hayseed Dixie.
