John Fahey (February 28, 1939 – February 22, 2001) was an American fingerstyle guitarist and composer who pioneered the steel-string guitar as a solo instrument. His style has been greatly influential and has been described as American Primitive, a term borrowed from painting and referring mainly to the self-taught nature of his art. Fahey himself borrowed from the folk and blues traditions in American music but also incorporated classical, Brazilian, Indian and abstract music into his eclectic œuvre. In characteristically witty fashion, he once said of his style: "How can I be a folk? I'm from the suburbs you know."

In March 2010 I was interviewed on a fine radio program called Psychic Glands (95bFM, Auckland, New Zealand) regarding my solo guitar work. In addition to the interview I recorded two exclusive tracks to be aired on the show. Recently I learned that the father of the host of the show, Basil Yap, is suffering from esophageal cancer. The family is currently trying to raise funds for treatment. I have bundled the tracks as a digital 7" and made them available for download on my bandcamp page (http://sammoss.bandcamp.com/). All of the proceeds from the sale of this digital 7" will go directly to the family. The minimum purchase price is $2, but you can donate as much as you like. truetopia love this music- like all the best things it seems more like a method and less like a genre. i grew up listening to my dad play guitar and i have never played a single song myself, but listening to this makes me feel it is my duty to at some point.
