Valentine's on New Scotland Ave is probably the best place if you want that kind of variety, they play a pretty good mix of shows. Red Square used to be pretty decent but in the last few years has kind of fallen off the rails; you might be able to catch a good show there now and then.

yeah yeah northern lights is okay. do you know any rock/indie/metal/punk/ska shit really anything? i havnt been able to find one place that place good music.

Northern Lights in Clifton Park has metal shows pretty much every week, that's probably the spot you're looking for.
