"all sentient beings have intrinsic worth and the right to be free from exploitation. without that one right, all others are hollow." if harm is believed to be wrong except in self-defence then you can't either enable it or cause it against other non-human sentient life without being inconsistent. all involuntary hierarchy and abuse of power rationalises each other.

If you care so much about people, it's a lot better to encourage vegetarian practices. Cattle take up way the hell too much space, compared to the food they yield. Given that the population on the earth is rapidly nearing capacity, we need all the space we need to feed everyone. Intelligent farming is much more productive. Secondly, humans need to learn how to treat not only animals, but the whole earth with respect, since it's likely to be our only home for a while. Our current habits of killing everything in sight to maximize profits doesn't help humans at all in the long run. So, while you may not agree with their tactics, the ALF is hardly "anti-human". ^_^
