The Great Loituma Tag Correction Campaign

The Finnish folk group Loituma rose to fame when the appearance of their song ievan polkka in Bleach was turned into a Flash animation and became an internet meme. Sadly, Loituma is living in tag hell! Here's a quote about the song from Wikipedia:

The name is commonly misspelled Levan polkka, due to the similarity of lower-case L and upper-case i in sans-serif fonts.

But that's only half the story. The lower-case L and upper-case i in the serif font that Loituma used on their album are also very similar! Plus, they listed the name of the song in both Finnish and English (ieva's polka), causing more confusion. Note that their translation is different to the one on Wikipedia.

Since the song is sung in Finnish and the correct Finnish name of the song is already quite widely used, this should be the name that everyone uses: ievan polkka. Anyone who thinks that the name of the song starts with L is absolutely wrong!

Help Loituma by scrobbling their song correctly! If you don't have the song, it's quite easy to do a search and find it on Google.

  • im with you!!!

    noOooo
  • Will do Cap'n Bloopbeard.

Ievan polkka sounds more correct than levan polkka.

Finally we can flag that Leva's Polka is an incorrect spelling!
