    A Hopeful Solution

The following steps should fix it:

    • Quit the client
    • Click "Run..." in the start menu.
    • Type %PROGRAMFILES%\Last.fm\Cleaner and press enter
    • Change your password at the site

      ---------------

Now you can restart the client and enter your new password.

On Vista type that the command into the "Start Search" bar instead (the bottom bit of new vista start menu).

Sorry about this, questions welcome below.

    This worked for me...

This fix worked for me. Started Last FM. Got the "Couldn't connect to server error". Went to Settings on my Last FM page and changed my password. Then went to Tools->Options on the client and rentered my username and the new password. Hit Apply and voila.

I think the reason that this got screwed may have been something to do with the "Last FM" facebook app. I only started to get the error after installing that. It involved me giving it my password and username to make it work obviously.

    Hope this helps

    {SAME AS ABOVE MESSAGE}
I found that in order to get my tracks scrobbled, I reset my password on http://www.last.fm/dashboard/ and then re-logged in on the last fm window (from the system tray on my computer) using my new password. Then, thankfully all of the tracks I'd listened to in the past few days which hadn't been scrobbled were scrobbled successfully. This is the best way to get your ipod up and running in my opinion.

    Hope this helps!

Is this some kind of bug? if so, how often will I need to change my password?

    cannot connect to server (solved|)

The re-entering username and password worked for me.

    Thx admin

  • facebook!

I've had the same problem, and it all began when I installed the Last.fm facebook application. (That would be the official application.) I'm using iTunes 7 on XP.

I've just changed my password on the site, run the Last.fm Cleaner.exe and tried to log in again with my new password. It hasn't worked; the last.fm app won't connect to the internet at all. (Something about a proxy server.) About to do a clean reinstall.

  • reinstall works

I just reinstalled and it's all fine. Glad to have found this thread, thanks.

    woohoo

the password thing worked for me, thank you so much :)

  • this didn't work for me. i even went so far as to sign up for a new account and put in that information and it's still saying couldn't connect to the internet, so i don't think it was password related.

I think I'm blind, where can I find tools->options on the client?

i cant get to tools cos the plugin wont install at the setup. Help plz

  • It worked for me as well. Thanks!

In case you're still trying to track down the origin of this bug: I haven't played around with the fingerprinting thingie but I have recently (as in, pretty much when I started noticing that there was a problem) tried yamipod and foobar2000's iPod Manager. I also tried out LastFMDesktop (pretty cool!) like a week ago so I don't suppose that has anything do with it.

    HTH. Cheers.

  • yay

Yep, re-entering the password worked for me! I was wondering, because the first time I tried connecting it did flash "wrong username/password" for a moment.
