New auto-corrections imported

  • Were any new auto-corrections imported this week? My library has looked the same for over a week now, when some obviouscases (like romanized plain names) ought to have been merged with ease...

  • dankine said:

are you sure this is how it is? after checking a few songs in my library, only the correct version remains.

100% sure. It's even noted in the "known issues" post.

Some of my library tracks show auto correction, but less than 1%. Look at it. Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington and so fort are all listed fine in my charts recently played list, but they're uncorrected in my library. It's VERY frustrating.

i probably shouldn't be doing this, but could we just cut to the chase on these:

Sergio Mendes should redirect to Sérgio Mendes
Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 should redirect to Sérgio Mendes & Brasil '66

and all of their streaming music, if that's possible too.

    wikipedia ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergio_Mendes
musicbrainz ref: long url of search results

if only because the playcounts/listeners of the misspelt artist pages totally overwhelm the correct ones. i'm sure there are other "sérgio" variants, but let's start off with these.

  • * Don't use (Original Mix), (Original Version) etc as part of the track name. E.g. map:
Daft Punk - Revolution 909 (Original Mix) -> Daft Punk - Revolution 909

I see a huge problem here. A good example is Groove Coverage. All their songs are remixes, and they have for example some nine remixes of Poison (for example Poison (Club mix), Poison (Radio edit) etc.), shortest being about a minute and half, longest almost ten minutes. Now that makes a big difference, and if all these versions are just placed under one name, that is simply wrong, because they are practically different songs. At the beginning the auto corrector did that, it doesn't at the moment and I hope it will continue this way. If and when I listen to a version of an original song, I listen to that specific version - there are many songs where I like the remixes but not the originals, so being able to discern between versions is quite a big deal to me - if it's the acoustic version, it is quite different from the techno mix...

    Close your eyes and dream.

I don't think they're saying to not use those parenthetical identifiers for any versions (at least I hope not!), but just don't use them for the ORIGINAL version because the "original" should be implied already.

The should certainly be used for acoustic, live, and remix versions. And if that's not what they mean, then I hope they change the guideline.

  • Guidelines are just that: guidelines. Especially at Last.fm, where guidelines are always broken, see shared biographies, shared artist images, etc.

  • I have a question about redirection:

I'm listening to a relatively unknown 80's hard rock band called Streets, which is currently being redirected to The Streets, a much more popular, currently active band. I voted that Streets shouldn't redirect to The Streets, but...

The thing is, all top tracks on Streets's page are actually songs by The Streets, so obviously those should be redirected. Can the artist redirection be removed, so that certain song-redirections be kept in place? Should I go vote for the individual songs to either be redirected or kept as is? I already voted on all the individual songs by Streets that they shouldn't redirect to The Streets. (Those songs that actually are by Streets.) But before I spend any more time on voting, I'd like to know if the redirection can work on a per song basis instead of a per artist basis.

you're on the right track: do the corrections on per song basis to pair the tracks with the right artist. :)

  • I don't quite like the auto-correction feature. Well, I actually like it, but sometimes some songs get auto-corrected to the wrong title! I have some of my titles with accents or first letter upper case and the rest lower case, and then the accents disappear, and there a lot of grammar errors! :'( This song is supposed to be titled "La Ilusión del Primer Amor", and it gets auto-corrected to [wrong title] La ilusion del primer amor. Another example, is "Sólo Vivo Para Ti" changes to Solo vivo para ti. Anorther one, is the name of Dedupléx changes to Dedupléx. This bothers me a lot! >=/

Autocorrection is runing my entire profile.

I have spent literally hundreds, maybe a thousand or more, painstakingly correcting every single tag in my music library matching them up with their correct releases between countries, years, and music labels only to have last.fm FUCK them up. Adding insult to injury seems to be the fact that I can't disable it.

    Artist Correction.

I think "blink 182" should be fixed to "blink-182." Because their website and everything always has the hypen. So, I think it should be corrected. So, "blink 182" to "blink-182."

No no no, I think you misunderstood. The guideline only applies to the original version. All versions other than the original should keep their "(something remix)".

Some of the auto-corrections that were in place in my library have disappeared, For example, I had Miracle by Paramore tagged as Miracle!, and it had auto-corrected it in my library, so I retagged it in my itunes to reflect the correct title. But when the new updates were implemented, the correction went away, and I now have all the plays for Miracle! back, and whenever I played the song when it was tagged correctly, it would have them split in my library (e.g. 20 plays for Miracle!, and 3 plays for Miracle). So I've deleted those plays and retagged it back to Miracle! (the incorrect tag)

Hoping things like this can be ironed out soon.

i think the slight rewording just above the "suggest a correction" link (from "redirected from" to "other spellings"), and the fact that it's one-way-only and no longer shows in the presumed correct page is an improvement. it'll help route redirects to the one correct page that much quicker.

    Hi there.

Although I love the idea of what you're doing, and with time it will be such a worthwhile venture. However, there's something I'm unsure of in terms of naming conventions.

In terms of stylised names, what is the convention?

I have always scrobbled allSTARS* as such, because on ALL of their releases, this is how their name is stylised.. yet the redirect points to Allstars and most of the listeners have their tags pointing to this.. Will my one vote matter on the allSTARS* page?

Edit: Just noticed the *NSYNC page is linked to their stylised version so allSTARS* should hold..

  • I continue to be completely baffled by Last.FM's unwillingness to recognize that until corrected tracks are added to the library, the system is fundamentally broken. Everything on this site depends on a clean library. Neighborhood, recommendations and so forth. As it stands right now, auto corrections don't get added to the library. Instead, the incorrect listings get added. That means that practically EVERY song I play is now being re-added as an incorrect tag. For example: I have over 1k plays for Duke Ellington. In the old system, the tag Ellington, Duke was auto corrected and added to the library as Duke Ellington. Exactly as it should be. Now the same tracks are added to the library with the uncorrected tag, so I have double entries for everything. One entry for Duke Ellington - Creole Love Call and one for Ellington, Duke - Creole Love Call. As a result my neighborhood, recommendations and so forth are completely non functional.

Why is Last.FM silent on this issue? Why is the site allowed to be fundamentally broken for week after week with no word from the staff on when or even if this is going to be fixed?

So, does last.fm plan to restore the fine-working corrections which were introduced with the first update and removed with this one or no?

why have the auto-redirections to Cæcilie Norby (✓) from Caecilie Norby (✗) and Cæcilie Nørby (✗) stopped working after the first few days? i've already asked this several times before. thks.
