Last.fm changes the case of tags (incorrectly)

  • If you're still in the mood for changing things. The track that irritates me the most about how it should be capitalized is Ben Folds' Fred Jones Part 2 it should just be Fred Jones Part 2 as it appears on the album. It irritates me that every time that I listen to that track it gets all lower case on me. Though, that song has a million different ways it's been scrobbled. Nothing to rival Guns 'N Roses though.

One that has been bothering me for a while now is III. Both artists are actually called III. I don't have any proof at hand, but it should be obvious, right? Lowercase just looks silly.

I think I've fixed all of the stuff you've posted here. But, again, I can't guarantee you I'll check this thread, so send me a PM if you really want it fixed.

The one that really boggles me is Gentle Giant's albums, which Last.FM seems to think should be ALL CAPS. Whenever I mention them in a post, it makes me look illiterate.

Spelling (and the old moderation merges) is a separate issue.

  • Go Up In Smoke should be "Go Up in Smoke".

  • Blasphemous Evil should be just Blasphemous Evil without caps.

    Thanks in advance.

  • First of all props to the mods for fixing the inevitable flood of requests whenever a thread like this comes up =)

My question is could we have a sticky "Case Change" thread?

    Also...can I get a correction? =)
Christian Nara should be Christian Nara (it's just a proper name, he's not a major artist and I can't find any hardcore proof)

I've gone through the most recent posts, and all posted tracks/artists appear to be correct from what I can see now.

I'm not sure about those last two. The Japanese tend to habitually put band/artist names in ALL CAPS (especially when transliterating katakana) for visual effect, but it's not necessarily the "official capitalization". It can be a tough call.

  • Track: The 13th Anthology ---> The 13th Anthology

Someone was obviously trying to mess around. :(

I couldn't find a discography listing on her official website, so here's a Neowing link: http://www.neowing.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=SQEX-10112

If anyone is still changing tags...

    http://www.last.fm/music/Killing+The+Dream/

Proof of the incorrect case on "the" is here:

    http://www.killingthedream.com/main/

    I forgot this one too:

    http://www.last.fm/music/Colin+Of+Arabia/

    Proof:

    http://www.punknews.org/review/4588

You can see the name on the album cover, capitalization in "of".

You want me to post screencaps from the anime opening and ending sequences which cite these artists in caps, with other words that are not in all caps?

    Again,
    Iku to IKU (http://www.cdjapan.jp/detailview.html?KEY=GNCL-29)
    Kaori to KAORI (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=VGCD-50005)

In the case of the last one, you'd do well to note that although the title (TEARS INFECTION) is also in all caps, the T and I are in larger font than the other letters. THAT is a stylistic effect; however, the artist capitalization is OFFICIAL and not just an "effect."

  • K.Rhythm Pt.2 should be changed to K.Rhythm Pt.2.
My only evidence is that part one is K.Rhythm Pt.1.

    Thanks in advance.

    Done the above...

  • Thanks, that was prompt. When I checked the corrected case, the full track status is gone. I know it's a different issue, but I just thought I would point that out.

So this post isn't completely off topic could My Night With the Prostitute From Marseille be changed to 'My Night With the Prostitute from Marseille'?

    Thanks again.

It's quite likely that the status was already gone, but the old status still cached. By me changing the case, it uncached the object so the old name and old persmissions were updated.

    Done.
