Does anyone have a recording of deadmau5's set from 2009? I'd really love it.

plus, at that time, the sun was glaring HARD, producing very flaccid bodies. In addition, that's about the time when the alcohol consumed prior to entering wears down and then begins to wear out your body. I am a part of the AC Collective.

I shot 38 bands, and only have a few up so far. Here's a link to a set with NIN, Doves, Yeah yeah Yeahs, Animal Collective:http://www.flickr.com/photos/paigekparsons/sets/72157618704278954/

Having both seen Animal Collective at Sasquatch and the next day in Oakland at a show of their own, I do have to admit that they were quite weak at the festival and it worried me when I was at their show. But needless to say, their show in Oakland rocked so fucking hard, you have no idea. The crowd went wild, the set was great, the light show was psychedelic. Doing a festival in the daytime in front of a crowd that hasn't gotten the acquired tasted needed for Animal Collective won't get positive responses. Festival crowds go crazy for entertainers like Girl Talk that cater to the ADD dancey crowd (not that I didn't enjoy his slot immensely).

http://fascistbullyboy.tumblr.com/post/116121435/recordings-from-the-coast Some bands I taped. A few didn't make it and beyond the actual sound of the Gorge not being the best, they turne dout well.

Yeah, I know. We're so hung up on that talent thing. We're so picky. I'm happy to see you've overcome that and gone electropop with the rest of the sheep, and with a side of homophobia to boot. Good for you.

No, she broke up with me at the show. She said I sucked almost as much as they did. Crystal Castles were admittedly worse, and, man, someone needs to stop Passion Pit. Hockey, also nasty, despite their awesome name. Of Montreal, Loch Lomond, Gogol Bordello, Ra Ra Riot, DeVotchKa, Nine Inch Nails, The Submarines, and The Red Wine boys did the best sets, for me. I'd never heard of three of them going in. I was disappointed to discover Ra Ra Riot's CD isn't near as interesting as seeing them live was, but Loch Lomond and Todd Barry's work stands up. Plus, I was pretty skeptical about Of Montreal going in, but they blew me away. That was the best show I've seen in forever. I had high hopes for Viva Voce, School Of 7 Bells, and Black Moth Super Rainbow, but they were all a little off (Black Moth needs to up their performance). I would have liked to have seen Grizzly Bear, Explosions In The Sky, Fleet Foxes, and maybe Deadmau5. Glad I missed Girl Talk and Jane's Addiction.

It was a combination of bored fans and really crappy music. None of their songs went anywhere, and the vocals rank among the worst I've ever heard (Karen O carried a tune better). They blew ass, plain and simple. Gogol Bordello and Santigold played the same stage at the same time the next day and everyone was moving, and neither of them have AC's following. Of course, Santigold has an actual voice (even though I don't much care for her style) and Gogol Bordello all run around and play instruments for a crowd instead of bobbing inconspicuously behind a few machines and 1995 screen saver visuals. Both were far more engaging than AC, with way better sound and more stage presence. I've liked some of AC's records, but this show was pure wank. All they have is hype and decent studio chops.

a really good example was when Peaches played the main stage at Coachella in 2006. Most of the crowd was made up of fans of "fuck the Pain Away", so to speak, so the crowd looked really weak. Main stage shows aren't really the way to go, unless the band has a really big general fan base.

Animal Collective (AC) DID kill it! Festival crowds are no indication of anything. The thing is with festivals is, alot of the people there are, at the most, casual fans and some are there to check out the hype. Those who are fans of AC and have listened to their back catalog are scattered throughout the 30,000+ so if you're going to gauge their act based on crowd reaction...it would fare well, of course. Had they played the Wookie stage, we would have been talking about AC like we are Explosions in the Sky or M83 or Of Montreal. Access to the pit for the main stage really blew. Plus, playing in the day time and playing new songs (which killed) for a crowd of casual fans isn't working to their advantage.

i agree that the crowd was pretty tame at this show, i'm just saying that it's not a good indicator of the AC experience circa 2009. it says more about people checking out AC for the first time in the middle of the day under the hot sun during a shortened/rushed set in the middle of a festival. i do agree that there wasn't much crowd action during their set, though.
