“Capsule’s Supersonic festival has evolved…to consistently provide one of UK’s most anticipated Festival line-ups. Fans of dubstep, krautrock, free-jazz and doom metal were all catered for on a bill which promised to both rupture the ears while stimulating the mind through its diverse selection of music, film and specialist talks.” - CLASH

Capsule the brains behind Supersonic Festival are curators, promoters and fans of the finest music, revealing the otherwise indescribable connections between contemporary music and art, crafting extraordinary events for adventurous audiences. Now in it’s 9th year, the event will once again take place at the Custard Factory in the heart of in the heart of Eastside of Birmingham, utilising converted factory warehouses and art galleries and offering up-close, intimate settings to showcase some of the most exciting music out there. Capsule’s passion for genre bending sound and performances is at the heart of all their events – there are not many places where you can listen to funeral doom, prog, folk, avant jazz and grindcore in one weekend.

Glad others found Teeth of the Sea annoying. I was really looking forward to seeing them but had to leave after 10 minutes. I've never seen such a smug band

I agree about Teeth of the Sea. Musically uninteresting and physically irritating!

Teeth of the Sea were annoying, especially the Himmler lookalike. Phew- finally got that off my chest. I saw them acting like complete pricks at Zombi too... guuuuuh! >:(

The Skull Defects was disapoitting since I love Peer Amid, but live I felt they were not so good :\ another line-up for E Wizard....I thinj they cahnge the line up every year...

Friday really enjoyed Mike Watt and SC3, I've seen Part chimp a dozen times and this wasnt a great performance Tim Chimp seemed to be struggling with ill health and kept making mistakes having to abandon one song half way through. Saturday Orthodox started the day with a bang and were followed by a captivating Bardo Pond really liked their new stuff, teeth of the sea made some interesting sounds, electric wizard were totally incredible and zombi was a great end . Sunday eternal tapesty were a perfect start soothing my hangover, drum eyes were awesome as was silver apples and my day finished with the perfectly raucous sounds of white hills. Have to agree with poster below that Birmingham was a bit on the dour side but the people were very friendly. Will come back next year for sure!

@Slushofield s'awright. I love my big, grey depressing turd of a city. It's a satisfying dump, so to speak. Cheers for the vid ;)

WITTR and Envy were both amazing. Sound was really good for both, very clear. I think it was generally the best Supersonic I've been to :)

My highlights - klaus kinski, antilles, mike hurly ensemble, SC3, the last half hour of Turbonegro (cos that's all I saw), alva noto, byetone, cut hands, scorn.... Despite my anticipation I thought drumcunt were boring as hell and skull defekts were bloody awful with embarassingly bad dancing/stage banter haha Still, an awesome weekend - totally knackered now.

I was totally caught of guard by Bardo Pond whose set I caught on a whim, and thought was totally awesome. But nothing beat SC3 for me. I also took part in the Dirty Electronics show in the old Library around 10.00 on Saturday night after building the Mute Synth that afternoon, which was super-noisy and fun.

*Sunday sorry. And I actually thoroughly enjoy living in Birmingham despite the whole huge, depressing grey turd thing! See you all next year.

Highlights for me were: Mike Watt, SC3, Antilles, alva noto, Cut Hands, Electric Wizard, WITTR and the magnificent Klaus Kinski (who made me miss half of the Wizard set because they were just too damn entertaining)

I was only there for the friday but Barn Owl and Envy were my faves, both fucking incredible. Alva Noto was a nice comedown after envy too.

Envy were amaaaaaazing. Selfless were great too. Good to hear a bit of screamo and d-beat at Supersonic :) Really well curated: long-standing favourites and plenty of unexpected treats, as always. Yeah, taking photos is fine so long as you respect those of us who just want to listen to the music and enjoy the experience in the here and now.

Totally agree with Un_Autre_Con. I was taking my fair share of photos from behind the barrier but pretty convinced that the majority of them didn't have photopasses. Oh well, really enjoyed the whole weekend regardless :)

WITTR were amazing but the 'photographers' (seemingly anyone with a guest pass and an iPhone) were really distracting. A couple of official photographers -fine- but there were about 20 people milling around and getting in my face most of the time. Please don't tell me they are 'artists'. I'd waited all year to place myself on the barrier and get an uninterrupted view for this. Moaning aside, Electric Wizard, Bardo Pond, Part Chimp and Cloaks were all fucking great. Can't wait for Envy today.
