Acts I reviewed for Rave:
Keeping the gathered masses warm at Future Music Stage is Ministry Of Sound’s glamour boy Hook N Sling. A seasoned crowd-pleaser, the globe-trotting Sydneysider finishes with a remix of Angus & Julia Stone’s polarising Big Jet Plane and Kanye West’s All Of The Lights – which he curiously keeps virtually unmodified.
Multiple festival appearances during the last two years have turned Perth psych-rock kids Tame Impala – who today stick out like a sore thumb on The Flamingo Stage – into a slick live act. With wah/fuzz freakouts kept to a minimum, Solitude Is Bliss, Desire Be Desire Go, Skeleton Tiger and Half Full Glass Of Wine start many a boogaloo.
The line between ‘punters’ and ‘munters’ becomes indistinguishable on the main Future Music Stage as Art Vs Science launch into Friend In The Field. The Sydney trio keep the hands/JB & Cokes-in-the-air momentum with the shout-a-long Parlez Vous Français? (replete with an extended guitar solo)…
