SouthFM to Release Rarities Collection
and Reunite at Deep Ellum's Curtain Club
After nearly 4 years of silence, Dallas based rock band SouthFM returns this Spring to make some noise. The band will release "Letters That Were Never Sent", a rarities collection of over fifty unreleased recordings beginning April 1st, and reunite for one night only on June 12, 2010 at the Curtain Club in Dallas, Texas.
Forming in 2001, SouthFM clawed their way up through the local Dallas music scene, eventually making waves nationally with their debut album Drama Kids. Released on MCA Records in 2003, and producing the lead single Dear Claudia, the album and song propelled the band onto the national stage touring along side bands such as Sevendust, Blue October, Staind, and Eve 6. Just as Claudia was beginning to stick in the ears of rock radio listeners MCA's roster, SouthFM included, was merged into Geffen Records and all but a few artists were lost in the shuffle. Napster and a new toy named the iPod had begun to take its toll on the music industry and SouthFM was one of the casualties.
Regrouping back in Dallas the band focused on the future and crafted what would become their swan song, their final release...2005's Swallowing The Pill. Released independently by Brando Records and produced by local legend David Castell (Course Of Empire, Toadies) the album spawned a number of local radio favorites and kept the band on the road for nearly two years. The end however was imminent, as the curtain was closed on the band for the last time in late 2006 with their final live performance taking place at Curtain Club in Deep Ellum...
But that same curtain is now set to open once again, as the band's core lineup will assemble for a reunion show to commemorate the release of "Letters That Were Never Sent", a rarities collection that dives deep into their history and unveils the last songs recorded prior to disbanding. Available exclusively on southfm.com for download beginning April 1, 2010, the first set of songs to be released features a number of outtakes and demos excluded from Drama Kids, including the original 4-track recording of Dear Claudia and an acoustic version of the song recorded live on Dallas' own KDGE The Edge in 2003.
