Last November Felix Kubin made his Boston debut at the Goethe-Institut with an extraordinary show of psy-fi pop electronics. In May Kubin returns to the Goethe, but this time he'll show his more experimental side. For this concert, Kubin will collaborate on a pair of avant-garde duets with two of Boston's most innovative musicians: Jessica Rylan and Keith Fullerton Whitman. This will be rare event indeed and one not to be missed!
Felix Kubin is one of electronic music's most dynamic and versatile performers. A lovechild of the home recording era, his activities include futuristic pop, radio plays, electroacoustic music, and works for chamber orchestra. Kubin's music is saturated with enthusiasm for disharmonic pop, industrial noise, and 20th-century avant-garde music. In the last 20 years, he has released a diverse array of albums and played over 70 electronic music festivals. He likes to move between high and low culture, clubs and concert halls, as his main concern is the shifting of contexts and expectations.
Jessica Rylan is a sound artist, electronic musician, and instrument builder, who lives and performs in the Boston area, where she grew up. The main focus of her work has been the design and construction modular synthesizers which use analog electronic circuits to create a diversity of sounds. She uses her synthesizers in installations at galleries and also in her high-energy and intensely personal live musical performances.
Keith Fullerton Whitman is a Boston-based composer/performer obsessed with electronic music; from its mid-century origins in Europe through its contemporary worldwide incarnation as digital music. Over the years, he has worked in a dizzying array of styles from frenetic drill 'n' bass to hypnotic drones to more abstract compositional exercises. He has released a series of critically acclaimed recordings on labels such as Kranky, Planet Mu, Room40, and Arbor.
